Thai security forces have killed a soldier who shot dead at least 29 people during a brutal rampage on Saturday. At least 57 others are injured after the soldier, said to be angry over a financial dispute, opened fire in a shopping mall.

Police and military personnel stormed the Terminal 21 shopping mall in the northwestern city of Nakhon Ratchasima to face suspected gunman Sgt Jakrapanth Thomma. Of those who died, 23 were civilians, three were police officers and three were army officers. Officials said the soldier, who has been confirmed dead, was angry over a land deal.

His death brought an end to an hours-long stand-off at the centre, during which automatic gunfire was heard and one security officer died, with two others wounded.
Further gunfire and explosions were heard inside the mall after the death of the security officer was confirmed. Thai authorities do not believe there are any more bodies inside the mall, which shoppers were evacuated from.

Did the soldier feel he was going to get a fair deal after killing large numbers of people?

There should be some kind of psychological assessment for people with access to firearms. Its not foolproof but would probably cut down the number of incidents.

It seems that he may have been stressed a lot. Especially Soldiers and police personal should under go stress test periodically. Also their jobs need to be less stressed and better conditions and facilities should be provided to them.
